Once your surgical procedure is complete, Laser Spine Institute Tampa nursing staff will transport you into our comfortable postoperative recovery area. Our medical staff will monitor your vitals and progress immediately following your surgical procedure.

You may feel some nausea from the anesthesia and discomfort from surgery. Our medical staff will do all that they can to ensure that you are comfortable. The recovery room nurse can provide you with medication if you are experiencing any nausea or pain. Once our medical staff determines that you have spent enough time stabilizing and recovering, your Care Partner can join you.

Your Care Partner will accompany you and help you change out of your gown into your own comfortable clothing. At this point you will receive your postoperative discharge instructions. Our staff will discuss the surgical procedure with you, required postoperative care, what you can expect and your future appointments.

Patients are typically required to rest for 48 hours post-surgery. Those undergoing stabilization will be required to have a home health nurse at their residence or hotel for 24 hours after surgery. A member of the Laser Spine Institute surgical staff will contact you within 24 hours of surgery to check on your progress. It is normal to have residual nerve pain in the weeks following surgery. Numbness and tingling may be some of the last symptoms to resolve and can take from three months to a year to improve. If you are medically able to take over-the-counter anti-inflammatories, such medications may help to relieve nerve root irritation and inflammation.

One to two days after your surgical procedure, you will have your final appointment at the Tampa surgery center. At this appointment, you will meet with either a physician assistant or nurse practitioner and a medical assistant in our surgery center. The medical team will evaluate your incision, change your bandage and provide you with further wound care instructions and dressing materials. We will review postoperative care recommendations and our follow-up protocol. If your physician ordered physical therapy, you will be given a prescription and instructions on follow-up physical therapy.

Our first-class Patient Services Department is devoted to customer service, postoperative recovery, overall communication, support and patient outcomes. They will follow up with you to ensure comfort, satisfaction and surgical success at one, two, six and 12 weeks post-surgery.
